Disgusting S&R Bakery!

So, I realize that this is my billionth post about S&R. Well, remember how I referred to the bakery as "cruddy"? I will have to revise my opinion and say it is disgusting. Rancid. Gross. Possibly holds the cure for strep throat. Some family came by today with a cake for a small birthday celebration. They made the unfortunate choice of purchasing it at the S&R Bakery (Congressional Branch). Does this not make you sick to your stomach?

"Honeycrunch Cake"

Purchased today (about $8.50)

Expiration date is five days from now....

....but it is rotted and moldy!!!

UPDATE: We went back to S&R this week and showed the bakery manager the pictures and the original receipt. She was very sweet and offered us a new cake free of charge (which we declined) so she instead gave us a store credit. Way more than we were expecting--we only went back to let them know they had rotten merchandise on display. Although I still will not buy from the bakery, their service was top notch. We went back over two weeks later with a digital camera and receipt and they went above and beyond.

Moral of the story: S&R = Great Service, Scary Baked Goods

Too bad, it looked good from the outside...

You should have sent it back and asked for refund.

Oh my god. That's horrible. I've never bought any of the baked goods from S&R and this is likely to make me think twice about sourcing any cakes from there.

They did give us a store credit (I updated the post to reflect it) and were really nice about it. The manager told us we were the first one to have a problem so maybe it was a fluke but I will not be going back to the bakery section to find out.

The whole thing just bummed me out because I love everything else about the store and to have a cake so rotten was a dissapointment. A little stale is part of life but mold is too much for me.

Welcome to the real world. Shit happens and food goes bad. It just so happened that you were lucky enough to have gotten it. At least the store was willing enough to give you satisfactory service despite the unfortunate purchase.

Im no photo expert but there is something fishy about your picture. I hope you are not just making a bad publicity about the store. But in my point of view upon checking your photo image its a little bit fishy because the grey color is too high in resolution while the other parts has a different lighting and resolution. just saying... Be careful you might be sued. :) just saying.

Mold will not kill you, these things typically happen with perishable food Items, who knows exactly the time it takes for spores to grow, many things could have caused this, moisture, humidity excetera. Problem is some things dont get date front faced in Asia, I have always been a person to reach to the back for the most recently dated item, as some people are lazy to front face, check all the dates, if you have five days left before expiry, but there are items that still have 10 days, go with the 10 days, check all the dates and go most recent....just something I have learned living in Asia.
